A limited number of these new wearable computing devices have been among the public for months now, and they generally elicit double takes and curious stares. Just like a normal pair of glasses, Google Glass needs just a bit of adjustment to be worn properly. It mainly comes down to the nose pads, which make sure that Glass' titanium band runs slightly above the eye line, like a sunshade or visor.

Microsoft Xbox One Kinect review

For the thousands around the world who watched Microsoft's Xbox One reveal event over the Internet and on their Xbox 360 consoles earlier this week, it was about an hour filled with some fresh information on the company's forthcoming console, though it also left them with a lot of questions. So what about Kinect? The first thing to note is that the resolution has also been radically improved. You not only get a 1080p color camera that enables high-quality Skype video chats, but it's a 3D scanning device that is strong enough to discern buttons and folds on a shirt, as well as whether you're moving your fingers, if you're facing the sensor or not, and even your facial expression.

Microsoft Xbox One Gamepad review

Following a full day of presentations, interviews, tours, tech demos and teases of the Xbox One's game-changing potential, the powers that be at Microsoft finally let us get our mitts on the new hardware's controller. While our time with the gamepad doesn't allow us to tear up the blacktop inForza 5 or command a SEAL Team canine in Call of Duty: Ghosts, it does provide a peek at a few of the 40-plus improvements that have been made over its predecessor. Before diving into six separate demos tailored to show off the controller's enhanced rumble tech, Microsoft senior product marketing manager, Navin Kumar, states "precision, comfort, and making gaming more realistic than ever" were the driving forces behind designing the new gamepad.

Canon PowerShot SX280 HS review

The Canon PowerShot SX280 HS - or Canon SX280 for short - replaces the Canon SX260. There are actually two versions of the same camera, the other being the Canon SX270 which features pretty much all of the same specifications, but lacks the inbuilt Wi-Fi and GPS of its slightly more expensive sibling. A 12.1 million pixel high-sensitivity (HS) CMOS sensor is joined by the headline feature of a 20x optical zoom lens. Whether or not you like the brightly coloured designs, Windows Phone 8 has become a fantastic OS and so we were happy this week to have our first taste of the new flagship Nokia Lumia 925.

That wasn't all either – we've played with some fun toys in the last seven days so have a browse and make sure you haven't missed anything exciting…

Hands on: Nokia Lumia 925 review

The Nokia Lumia 925 is a tricky beast to rate. Nokia tells us that this is a phone designed for the more technologically minded, the person that wants the latest and greatest handset from the brand. However it seems that person would be disappointed by the Lumia 925, with its average specs and minimal upgrade from the 920 - at least when it comes to the internals. But there's no doubting that it's going to be a market-leading cameraphone, and with things like the dedicated camera button (sounds obvious, but makes a huge difference) the 925 is definitely going to be a front runner for anyone that wants one of the most powerful portable cameras around.

Samsung PS64F8500 review

First impressions of the Samsung PS64F8500 in action are little short of dazzling. Literally. The huge screen defies not only every plasma TV we've seen before but even our expectations of what plasma is capable of by serving up extreme levels of brightness that actually manage to rival those that have proved so useful in making LCD the most popular TV option. Even more amazingly, these unprecedented plasma brightness levels remain seemingly completely intact if you turn all the lights in your room up to max, because Samsung's new on-screen filter design stops plasma cells being 'infiltrated' by ambient light.

Hands on: BlackBerry Q5 review

The BlackBerry Q5 is one for the aficionados who can't afford, or refuse to splash cash on the highly priced Q10, with the solid BlackBerry typing experience at the heart of everything it does. Without knowing the price it's difficult to say how it will stand up against other handsets, but anyone who isn't a BlackBerry fan and is in the market for a reasonably priced smartphone probably won't be taken with the Q5. That said if BlackBerry manage to price the Q5 low enough it would make it a seriously attractive proposition with its decent power under the hood, HD display and rapid internet browser. We're just going to have to wait and see.

And this week's other reviews...

Cameras and camcorders

Nikon Coolpix S5200 review

Nikon Coolpix S9500 review

Panasonic HX-WA3 review

AV

Samsung BD-F6500

Gaming

Hands on: Nvidia Shield review

Monitors

Viewsonic VX2770Smh-LED review

Philips Brilliance 928X4QJAB review

Philips Brilliance 278G4DHSD review

NEC EA244WMi review

Review Roundup: This week's hottest reviews on TechRadar

The TechRadar garden is a mess, so we're spending the next couple of days weeding, planting and watering. It's clearest competitor is the similarly-priced, similarly-specced and similarly-crafted Google Nexus 7. There are a few tweaks and a slight change of materials for the chassis, but the big difference is the addition of 3G telephone capability. As a smartphone, its use is negligible. But as a tablet, the Asus FonePad shines just as brightly as it's Google-branded cousin. Asus has priced the FonePad very nicely - it's cheaper than both the 3G Nexus 7 and the iPad mini, which many see as the two ruling devices of the 7-inch market.

BlackBerry Q10 review

Without doubt the BlackBerry Q10 is the best QWERTY keyboard smartphone on the market. However start stacking the Q10 up against handsets which have a similar price tag and you can't help but think it's possibly one of the most expensive keyboards on the planet, with little in the way of stand out features to justify its cost. If you can't live without a physical keyboard on your phone then you're more than likely going to buy this phone anyway - and that's fair enough - but if those buttons are less of an issue you'll get much more for your money elsewhere.

Sony NEX-3N review

The Sony NEX-3N is not a camera for advanced photographers looking for something to replace or sit alongside their DSLRs. Luckily, Sony already has cameras that meet that brief in its lineup. Instead, what we have here is something that anybody can pick up and be assured of great image quality. It's a shame that there are a few small bugbears along the way with operability - most notably in the frustration encountered when needing to switch off raw format shooting to use so many of the different functions - but overall this is a very competent compact system camera.

Napster review

Unlimited listening and offline syncing means you can put as many songs as you lie onto your devices. Here's our round-up of the hottest tech we've played with this week.

Nokia Lumia 520

The Nokia Lumia 520 is Nokia's fifth Windows Phone 8 handset. It's a phone which slots into the very bottom end of the range, just below the Nokia Lumia 620. And we do mean just below - the specs of the 520 and 620 are remarkably similar, meaning that Nokia's main competition at the bottom end of the market is itself. Otherwise, its biggest rival is likely to be the recently launched Huawei Ascend W1 - a low-end handset that we're rather fond of.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 review

With the Galaxy Note 8.0, which bridges the space between the Note 2 and Tab 2 10.1, it's clear that Samsung is continuing its approach of throwing out as many devices as it can in an effort to catch as many consumers as it can. The question is, do the customers care about all this subtle differentiation, or is Samsung just creating confusion in an oversaturated market? A scaled up Samsung Galaxy Note 2 it may be, but there are a lot of positives on offer thanks to that larger screen.

HTC First review

Facebook is so big, so everywhere, so omnipresent that it's already on everyone's phone, but apparently that's not enough for the sharing mogul. Now Facebook has decided to completely take over devices with Facebook Home, and has collaborated with HTC to create the HTC First, a phone meant to show just what that experience can be. The First moniker comes from being the first phone with Facebook Home preloaded. It's a well built, unassuming little handset, nowhere near as big, flashy or as fast as the quad-core HTC One.

Hands on: TomTom Multi-Sport GPS Watch review

TomTom has always been about getting from A to B in the fastest, simplest way. So the announcement that it would be focusing more on the space in between those points was a surprise to many, despite the fact that TomTom's mapping system makes its GPS watch feel like a no-brainer in many ways. But with wearable tech the current hot topic of discussion, the initial surprise around TomTom's sports watch has rapidly turned into intrigue. So TechRadar got wrist-on and personal to see whether TomTom could bring its solid reputation as a mapping service to the realm of sports tech.

Nikon Coolpix P520 review

Competition in the bridge camera market at the moment is pretty fierce. It's one of the only growing segments in the compact camera market, as users look for something much more advanced than their phone, especially in regards to zoom functionality. It's a bit of an oxymoron that bridge cameras are lumped into the compact genre when, in actuality, many of them are roughly the same size as entry-level DSLRs. Where the difference lies, however, is in the size of the sensor. The Nikon P520 houses an 18 million pixel, 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor. This is the same size as those found in many "normal" compact cameras. However, where this camera, and other cameras of its type, trumps the larger sensored DSLR is the zoom flexibility.

This week's other reviews

Cameras

Nikon Coolpix A review

Panasonic Lumix GF6 review

Nikon Coolpix P330 review

Ricoh GR review

Accessories

Thrustmaster Y-250C review

Klipsch Image ONE (II) review

Chrome Sentinel Laptop Backpack review

SteelSeries World of Warcraft Wireless MMO Mouse review

Mobile phones

Motorola Razr HD review

Samsung Galaxy Mega review

Networking kit

Archos TV Connect review

Devolo dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ review

Speakers

Edifier e10 Exclaim review

Storage

LaCie Blade Runner 4TB review

Transcend Wi-Fi SD Card review

Tablets and ereaders

Archos ChildPad review

Amazon Kindle Fire HD review

Kobo Aura HD review

Review Roundup: This week's super-hot reviews on TechRadar

As North Korea plots to blow us all to nuclear smithereens, the TechRadar reviews squad has been beavering away to get everything tested before the end arrives.

This week's hottest product has to be the Razer Edge, the first bona fide gaming tablet to hit the shelves. You only have to look at it to realise it's built from the ground up with gaming in mind. We reviewed the Razer Edge Pro, which has an i7 Intel processor, 8GB of RAM, a 2GB Nvidia GT 640M LE and the option of a 128GB or 256GB solid state drive. So it's a serious device with serious components, then. It's very expensive at £1000/$1500 but it's hard to pick one up, play some Dirt 3 and not enjoy yourself. The Edge wins poinst for fun factor, style and proving that you can have Plants vs Zombiesand Left 4 Dead 2 on the same tablet.

myFC PowerTrekk review
You're lost in the jungle and your phone is out of battery so you can't navigate your way to safety. If you don't do something soon, you'll die. What you need is the PowerTrekk - a USB charger powered by water and the spirit of Albert Einstein. Anyone with an interest in tech and science will be fascinated by this gadget – it's absolutely not a product that most of us would find any use for, but the way it uses a hydrogen fuel cell to charge your phone using water as fuel is geeky gradious at it's most gratifying. Just remember to put a clothespeg on your nose – it makes an awful stink.

Dell XPS 10 review
The Dell XPS 10's black plastic appearance and unnaturally heavy build make this Windows RT hybrod tablet an instant turn-off. While it may be for sale among its business offerings, that doesn't mean consumers should sacrifice a pleasing build or competitive portability. However, it still has to be said that is one of the finest Windows RT devices we've seen, and comes at an attractive price. The huge battery life is truly impressive, and it gives us hope that a concerted push from Microsoft could give Windows RT a future. However, it's certainly a secondary device that can only complement another full-form computer. If you're looking for a proper, singular upgrade, a full-fat Windows device is still your only option.

Huawei Ascend W1 review
It's had more leaks than a wicket canoe, but now the Ascend W1 is finally here and it's a thoroughly decent Windows Phone 8 handset.

Panasonic TX-L42E6B review
With its strikingly slender design, superb interface, solid online services and impressive picture quality, this is a suberb LED TV that offers excellent value for money.

Panasonic TX-L42DT65B review
The second screen era cometh with this slim LED TV's twin Freeview HD tuners, one of which can send a second TV channel straight to your tablet.

Monitor Audio Airstream WS100 review
If you've been looking for a great wireless music system without all the faff of Sonos, this is undoubtedly it.

And this week's other reviews

AMD A10-5700 review

Razer Electra review

Gigabyte U2442F review

Hands on: Panasonic GF6 review

Finlux 40S8070-T review

BenQ XL2720T review

Finlux 32F8030-T review

Facebook Home review

Review Roundup: This week's hottest reviews on TechRadar

Is it really April already? Although it's a little more expensive than the Panasonic TZ35, those extras will no doubt appeal to a good number of people. If you're a novice photographer looking for an all-round good performer with a flexible zoom length for your trips away, this is an excellent choice. Equally, it's also good for those a little more experienced, as the fully manual and semi-automatic modes attest to. Overall, it's an excellent camera, which should be one of the highest considerations for those looking for the ideal travel compact that offers more than some of the standard options on the market.

Hands on: Ouya review

Despite having actually seen, touched and played an Ouya, the console still feels pretty enigmatic. Like any video game system, it's going to live or die by its games, and we're still not sure what those will be. While we found the titles from our demo to be well adapted to the console and charmingly odd, none of them struck us as system sellers. If the Ouya were to launch in the state that we saw - with no true streaming video service, a smattering of dark-horse titles and games already available elsewhere - we'd say that team Ouya has sold all the systems it's going to sell through its Kickstarter campaign. But we doubt that's going to happen. If there's one thing that the Ouya has proven to be good at, time and time again, it's surprises. We just wish that we'd seen enough to throw more than our cautious optimism behind it.

Samsung PS51E490 review

It's fair to say that normally if you see a price of less than £800/US$800 attached to a 51-inch TV, you probably won't expect that TV to be up to much. Right from the start, though, the Samsung PS51E490 starts trying to oppose those negative expectations with a design that's stylish, if a bit too chunky to be trendy. But once you've taken a few shortcomings on the chin, it's pretty much all uphill from there with this TV. HD picture quality in 2D and 3D mode is surprisingly strong, with good colours, more sharpness than expected, solid motion reproduction and a handy contrast performance by budget TV standards. Yes, you can get better plasma TVs if you spend more money, but so what? The Samsung PS51E490 is specifically designed for people who can't afford to spend more money, and it satisfies the likely needs of that target audience well.

Panasonic HC-V720 review

The Panasonic HC-V720 has a good bundle of features that are very appealing, but a lack of sharpness and a little too much noise and colour banding lets its images down. We think this is due to the budget-standard image sensor in the camcorder. Now, we're not suggesting that we should be getting full frame DSLR sensors in a camcorder of this price, but with Panasonic's own Micro Four Thirds Lumix G3 selling for £350 / US$350 / AU$450, we feel like a bigger sensor shouldn't be out of the question. The important thing when considering whether to get the Panasonic HC-V720, then, isn't whether it'll give you vastly improved image quality in your video over what some cameras or the best smartphones will do. Sadly, it often won't. But we couldn't have achieved the shots in our sample video without it, and for that, we think it'll still be thoroughly worth the investment for some people anyway.

LG Optimus G review

On its own merits, the LG Optimus G is an accomplishment. It hails a return to form for LG after numerous smartphone failures, and if this were last year, it would be a home-run, for sure. But, it's not last year, and as LG finds its feet with the Optimus G, the competition is sprinting past with newer, faster, prettier phones, with better cameras and the latest features. The Optimus G stacks up well next to a Galaxy S3 or an HTC One X, but not so well next to their successors.

Sphero review

As smartphone toys go, the Orbotix Sphero has a lot of recommend it. It's easy to setup and fun to use - thanks to a variety of largely free and low priced games. The Sphero itself isn't perfect - sometimes, the ball's controls get a little eccentric during play - but if our biggest complaint is that its one hour battery is too short that only goes to show how great it is to have this ball around.

And this week's other reviews...

Hands on: Sony NEX-3N review
OCZ Vector 128GB review
Hands on: Panasonic GF6 review
Samsung Ativ Smart PC Pro review
B&O Beovision 11 review
Acer Aspire 5600U review
MSI CX61 0NF review

Review Roundup: This week's hottest reviews on TechRadar

It's the Easter weekend, which means days off and chocolate binges to the point of nausea, yay! For us it also means reflecting on a slightly manic March and looking back at another exciting week in Tech.

The gadget gods have been ramping up their cloud-based production factories lately and products have been spewing through all four TechRadar offices with more veracity than an angry badger in a feeding frenzy.

So before we invoke any more animal-based similes, let's sit back for five minutes and digest the last seven days on the TechRadar review pages...

Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 review

If you're on the market for a gaming laptop, you should buy the Y500 as soon as you possibly can. It's an ultra-rare combination of fast, versatile, and affordable. And while it is a bit bulky, it's not so big that you can't carry it with you. From the slightly nerdier perspective of a PC system-builder, the Y500's component selection reflects an intelligent, well thought-out design process. Lenovo's decision to pair a powerful, modern Ivy Bridge mobile CPU with a pair of older, high-mid-range GeForce parts is the kind of decision-making that savvy, performance-oriented DIYers make all the time when constrained by dollars. You can get faster laptops today, but at nowhere near the price tag of this one. That makes this an easy call. If you're on the market for a gaming laptop, you should buy the Y500 (in the same trim as we reviewed it) as soon as you possibly can.

Fuji X20 review

With the X20, Fuji continues its dominance in the corner of the market reserved for high-end compact cameras with superb image quality that exude retro cool. The fact is, no other manufacturer manages to mix those two qualities together quite so well as Fuji, and for that, the company should be applauded. As a premium compact, the Fuji X20 is a delight to use and will be surely appreciated by those looking for a great backup model for their DSLR or CSC. If you already own a Fuji X10, there's not quite enough here to warrant an upgrade just yet, though there are obvious advantages to this over the previous version of the camera. And while it does perform extremely well, we're not sure it's worth the extra premium that it is currently demanding, so it may be worth waiting until the price drops a little before investing. That said, if you're a particular fan of Fuji, and its excellent design credentials, this is a sure fire winner.

HP Envy x2 review

There are two ways to conceptualize the Envy x2. One way is to think of it as a notebook where the screen comes off and can be used as a tablet. It's better, though, to think of it as a tablet with an optional keyboard that also functions as a docking station. This docking station offers sundry connectors and a second battery. There's little question this is the direction laptops are heading. After all, tablets are such powerful computers in their own right, there's no reason why they shouldn't also run full-featured desktop operating systems. It's just a waste of computer power to limit them. This is the type of device that is sure to improve over time, and it's showing the way to the undeniable future of ultralight laptops.

Panasonic TX-L47ET60B review

The TX-L47ET60B LED TV isn't as good as Panasonic's plasma offerings. It is, however, is just as good as its real rivals - and probably better. The picture quality may not be up to the pace-setters that cost a good deal more, but this 47-inch TV has a decent enough balance between contrast, colour and black level to survive as a TV for casual use in a living room. It's impressive-looking, too, and just 35mm slim. Add to that a tinkering-free experience thanks to True Cinema (you can forget about calibrating and spend your time more wisely - choosing a movie!), a top-quality SD-HD upscaling experience, hassle-free 3D and some novel smart TV applications and - with a few quid knocked-off the asking price, perhaps - the Panasonic TX-L47ET60B appears a talented all-rounder.

Nikon D7100 review

All things considered, Nikon has produced an attractive offering for enthusiast photographers that centres around the thing that these users value the most - detail. The Nikon D7100 produces sharp, detail-rich images straight from the camera and noise is well controlled up to ISO 6400. However, as usual we wouldn't recommend straying beyond this value and into the expansion range.

And the rest of this week's reviews...

Re-reviews:

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini review

iOS 6 review

Microsoft Surface RT review

Hands on: Samsung Galaxy S4 review

Office 2013 review

Nvidia Project Shield review

iPhone 5 review

Hands on: Panasonic TZ40 review

Windows 8 review

Sony Xperia Z review

New reviews:

Acer Iconia Tab A210 review

BenQ W703D review

HP Envy 2X review

Toshiba AT300SE review

Hands on: Canon 700D review

Hands on: Canon 100D review

This week's hottest reviews on TechRadar

Another week goes by and another batch of products have been reviewed on TechRadar.

This week we have been particularly impressed with Samsung's new 32-inch TV which packs excellent picture quality at a price tag normally owned by Toshiba's budget offerings. It may not come with any internet features but most people just want a decent picture anyway, right?

Elsewhere, we've spent enough time with the Chromebook Pixel to deliver a final opinion, and there's been a whole raft of other tests too. So while you wait patiently for our HTC One review (it's coming soon!) check out everything from the past week…

Chromebook Pixel review

This is the best Chromebook in the world, but even within the context of rating Chromebooks, it's not perfect. When you put it in the wider context of Windows, OS X, iOS, Android and so on, it becomes even less compelling. However, while it's a little trite, Google is getting good at hardware faster than Apple is getting good at services, and the Chromebook Pixel is the best example of that we've ever seen. Apple, the world's biggest technology company, should be paying attention. But ultimately, unless you're a technology fetishist who wants some bragging rights, already love Chrome OS or think you might and are looking for better-made hardware for it than the previous, cheaper Chromebooks, or have enough money to dispose of, move on.

Samsung UE32EH5000 review

The Samsung 32EH5000's main attraction isn't a complicated one: it's all about the price, plain and simple. There will doubtless be gazillions of TV buyers who simply see the Samsung badge on a 32-inch TV selling for £270 (around US$406/AU$398) and know without further investigation that this must be the TV for them. The Samsung 32EH5000's price does come with feature strings attached, though. It's not 3D ready, it doesn't have any online streaming features, and it can't even 'chat' to a networked DLNA PC. It does, though, support multimedia playback from USB devices, and provides a startling amount of picture tweaks for a budget TV.

Hands on: Nikon Coolpix A review

In the Coolpix A, Nikon has produced a very interesting premium compact camera, with the added bonus of a sensor that has already proved its mettle in the Nikon D7000, an added incentive for anyone on the fence. It's interesting that the company has chosen to remove the optical low pass filter, something that is also true of the Nikon D800E and the recently announced Nikon D7100. That said, with an asking price of just shy of £1,000 (around US$1,506/ AU$1,484), this is a serious investment, and not one to be taken lightly. Though it's not quite up there with the asking price of the Sony RX1, it's also worth pointing out that it does have a smaller sensor.

ZTE Blade 3 review

The ZTE Blade 3 isn't a polished offering but we can almost forgive it when we are reminded of its price tag. This is a cheap and cheerful handset aimed at giving people an entry point to the smartphone market. Sony is making a triumphant comeback in many areas at the moment, but mobile is an area it's focussing on more than any other. With blistering fast performance, market-leading features and some unique talents - including the ability to go underwater without drowning – it's a definite candidate for phone of the year. The only real problem is the price – it costs even more than the iPhone and significantly more than the next-best Android offering, the Samsung Galaxy S3. Sony knows it can always lower the price, but putting it up is more tricky – so it's giving itself plenty of room to find the perfect price point. Should you buy it? If you're happy to spend the money, absolutely.

Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan

The GTX Titan is the world's fastest single-GPU graphics card and is likely to stay that way for some time. It packs the same full-fat Kepler core as used by the 18,688 Tesla K20 cards inside Cray Titan – the world's most powerful supercomputer. In our benchmarks it came close to beating two next-best-thing GeForce GTX 680 cards in SLI and you'd hope it would be that power full too, given the retail price is north of £800. SO it's the graphics card to buy if price is ni object, then. But for general PC gamers, this is not a card that will have much relevance when you can get far better price-to-performance balance from the likes of the GTX 670.

Hands on: HTC One review

The HTC One is the firm's new attempt at a market-leading handset, and with an all-aluminium body, super-high-res 4.7-inch HD screen and futuristic camera technology, it could be something of a winner. HTC has brought even better design and improved things even further by innovating on things like user experience and camera functionality - in a world of smartphone patent litigation, this is a breath of fresh air. In short, we're really glad to see HTC is still putting its weight behind a top-end smartphone; confusing name aside, the HTC One shows a lot of promise and could well see the firm pulling back into the black in 2013.

Hands on: Google Chromebook Pixel review

It's a Chromebook, which means it only runs Chrome OS.
